A

Bred Herd,

Not A Fed Herd

We run a mixed livestock farm at Okehampton, Devon on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park. The farm is equally split between beef and sheep with 40 acres of arable. The farmstead is about 1000ft above sea level, some of the land is classed as disadvantaged, we also have moorland grazings for both cattle and sheep.

The farm was started by Dudley and Frances Luxton in the 1960s, it is now run by them with their son Stuart, his wife Lynette and their daughters Susie and Rachael. In 2008 the family opened a farm shop which specializes in high quality butchery. We retail our own beef and lamb and other localy produced meats.

In 2007 Luxtons Aberdeen Angus was established with the purchase of some high quality females from Brian Derek of the Clover Herd. To these we have added females from amongst others the herds of Woddington, Westwilmer, Southford and Ballathie.

We have purchased stock bulls of high quality and retained daughters from these to build up the herd which now numbers 150 breeding females plus comercials. Our medium term aim is to have 200 predigree breeding females.
